Dynamic growth of renewable energy sources capacity in Poland

At the beginning of August, the Energy Regulatory Office published the latest data on the installed capacity of renewable energy sources in Poland. At the end of June, the installed capacity of larger renewable energy sources in Poland was already 9.5 GW, an increase compared to the end of 2019 by 370 MW.

Wind sources have the largest share in the domestic renewable energy sources resource – their capacity exceeded 6 GW in mid-2020. In the second place are sources powered by biomass – power of 1,508 MW. The next places are hydropower (974 MW), photovoltaics (708 MW and sources using biogas – 245 MW. Of the new energy sources that appeared in the first half of 2020, 230 MW was photovoltaic, and over 120 MW was wind power.
The low share of photovoltaics is due to the fact that the above statistics do not include prosumer installations that do not require a license. According to the latest data from Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne, the power of all photovoltaic sources in Poland already reaches over 2.26 GW.
