In order to provide the inhabitants of the southern part of the Pomeranian Voivodeship with better railway travel opportunities, PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. will prepare a project of modernization of the following lines: between Tczew and Czersk, from Szlachta to Bak and from Szlachta to Lipowa Tucholska. The documentation is a step to prepare faster crossings and better service comfort at stations and stops.

The tender has been launched

PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. announced a tender for project documentation with author’s supervision for the task “Works on railway line no. 203 on the section Tczew – Czersk” as part of the project “Preparatory works for selected projects in the TEN-T network”. The documentation will be ready at the turn of the second and third quarter of 2023.

The project includes lines: from Tczew to Czersk (no. 203), from the Szlachta through Czersk to Bak (no. 215), and the unused line from Lipowa Tucholska to the Western Szlachta (no. 744). The documentation is also intended to cover the construction of two connecting links between the Chojnice – Tczew line (no. 203) and the Bydgoszcz – Gdynia Port line (no. 201). In total it is about 100 km of the line.

The documentation concerns an investment which is important for passenger traffic. The planned links may improve the transport of goods on the line from Bydgoszcz (No. 201) to and from the Port of Gdynia. Once the documentation is used and the project is implemented, better and more efficient railway connections with Tczew and Bydgoszcz may be available for the residents of Pomerania.

The project is to include reconstruction of stations and stops in Starogard Gdanski, Czarna Woda and Czersk, among others. It is planned to rebuild and build new viaducts, bridges and crossings under the tracks. The documentation is to include electrification, which will reduce the line’s impact on the environment, and the trains will run more efficiently and quietly.

Travel speeds up to 160 km/h

Thanks to the documentation for which the tender was announced, it will be possible to modernise the section of line no. 203 between Tczew and Czersk, which will reduce travel time. Passenger trains will be able to travel up to 160 km/h and freight trains 120 km/h. Similar scope and effects of the works are to be determined by the documentation for line no. 215, where it is planned to rebuild stops in Bedzmierowice and Karsin.

The deadline for submitting tenders in the procedure for design documentation for the task “Works on railway line no. 203 between Tczew and Czersk” passes in mid-March. The investment will be possible after securing financial resources.
