The first Izera electric car factory in Poland will be built in Jaworzno. The documents on cooperation in construction work and site preparation were signed. The construction is planned to start in 2021.
The project arrangements
On 15 December, a memorandum on cooperation in construction works and preparation of the site for the construction of an electric car factory in Jaworzno was signed. The agreement was signed between the minister of climate and environment, Michal Kurtyka, representatives of the ElectroMobility Poland Company, the Marshal’s Office of the Silesian Voivodeship, the city of Jaworzno, and the State Forests.
The factory will provide about 15,000 jobs – 3,000 directly at the factory, and about 12,000 job posts with suppliers. According to Michal Kurtyka, the investment of the ElectroMobility Poland Company is an opportunity for the exploitation of the potential of electromobility for the efficiently functioning automotive industry in the Silesian Voivodeship.
The project will be an act of combining economic development with ecological solutions and will receive support from the government. It will be another step towards the development of the Silesian Voivodeship.
The importance of the location
The Silesian Voivodeship is the most favourable location for the construction of the factory for a number of reasons, such as the access to the utilities, the road infrastructure, topography and usage of land, and legal issues related to land ownership. The significant issues also included the possibility of building a factory and appropriate logistic facilities, as well as the creation of the supplier park that would be adjacent to the plant. Jaworzno met the given conditions and was selected from among thirty other locations. The necessity to implement preparatory work before the construction of the factory marks the start of the assembling of the cars in 2024 (initially production was scheduled for 2023).
The Katowice Special Economic Zone (KSEZ) is the area where the factory will be built. KSEZ is a cluster of more than 400 companies, which have created 80,000 jobs in total, thanks to the investments of over PLN 40bn. A large number of companies specialising in the production of automotive components, which may become potential partners of Izera, is located there.
The construction of the factory will benefit the city in the form of additional budget revenues and workplaces, as well as the development of modern road infrastructure.
