New SPC authorities selected

On May 31, 2019, the elections of the new SPC authorities took place in Krakow. Krzysztof Kieres was elected the new chairman of the association for a four-year term of office. He will replace Ernest Jelito, who will be a member of the HeidelbergCement Management Board from July this year. Ernest Jelito was elected Chairman of the SPC in December last year.

Krzysztof Kieres is a graduate of the Faculty of Economics and Sociology at the University of Łódź, specializing in economics and foreign trade organization. During his career he gained experience in numerous construction companies. Among others, he had a two-year apprenticeship at the German Bilfinger und Berger concern in Mannheim. For 20 years he has been working for Dyckerhoff Polska, where he recently held the position of General Manager.

The General Meeting of SPC Members also elected a vice-chairman, Dariusz Gawlak, President of the Management Board of Cementownia Warta S.A. and members of the boards of the association, who were Włodzimierz Chołuja (CEMEX Polska), Xavier Guesnu (Lafarge Cement), Janusz Miłuch (Ożarów Group) and Andrzej Reclik (Górażdże Cement).

A good time for the cement industry

Last year turned out to be a record period for the cement industry in Poland. According to the Central Statistical Office (GUS), the production of cement in the country amounted to over 18.9m tonnes, i.e. increased by 9.9% compared to 2017. This is a better result than the previous record of cement production in 2011, when the market was driven by preparations for Euro 2012.

In the first four months of 2019, the volume of cement production in Poland reached almost 5.1m tonnes, i.e. increased by 12.2% compared to the corresponding period of 2018.
