The largest railway investment in the capital of Malopolska will significantly change the landscape of the city, especially in the very centre.

Modernization of railway line E30

Works related to the implementation of the investment project entitled “Works on the E30 railway line between Krakow Glowny Towarowy-Rudzice and the extension of the agglomeration line tracks” are in progress. The scope of works includes the construction of, among others, two new stops in Krakow: Krakow Grzegorzki and Krakow Zlocien. As part of the investment, eight stations and stops will be rebuilt and 200 new ones will be built. New flyovers and bridges will be built and 50 km of tracks and overhead contact line will be modernised. The investment is worth almost PLN 1bn. The project is co-financed by the European Union from the “Connecting Europe” instrument.

Three new bridges across the Vistula

One of the key elements of the modernisation of the Krakow Glowny Towarowy-Rudzice diameter line is the construction of three new railway bridges in Kraków. The structure of the bridges will consist, among others, of three arches of various sizes. The construction of the first crossing is almost ready. The works are currently focused on a bridge span of 116 meters. It will be the largest structure of this type in Poland. The extreme arches of the bridge over Podgorska and Zablocie Streets are already installed. After the assembly of the arches is completed, the general contractor will start building the tracks. Four railway tracks will be available, not two so far. In autumn, the old bridge will be demolished and the other two bridges will be built in its place. According to the announcement of Ireneusz Merchel, President of PKP PLK, the first trains will travel on a fragment of the new track at the beginning of the third quarter of 2019. The main works will be completed next year.
