New hotel brands are coming to Poland

What hotels have recently opened? Which ones are to launch? What new brands are to enter the market?
Warsaw is the fastest growing hotel market in the country. According to Walter Herz, today there are over 15 000 hotel rooms. The planned openings will bring almost 5 000 more hotel rooms in the next three years. Outside of the capital, Cracow and Tri-City are the fastest growing hotel markets. The 12000 hotel rooms in Cracow available today will grow by around 2500 rooms in two years from now.
After the opening of Radisson Hotel & Suites (part of Deo Plaza on the Motlawa River bank) which with its 340 rooms is the largest hotel in the Tri-City, with the local market offers about 7 000 rooms. According to Walter Herz, new properties, which are to open by the end of 2022, will provide additional 1700 rooms.
Motel One Warszawa Chopin with 333 rooms has been operating in Warsaw for several months. It is the first property of this brand in Poland. Last year, Vienna House Mokotow Warsaw, located in the office part of Mokotow, entered the Warsaw market as a business and lifestyle hotel. Additionally, Puro hotel with 148 rooms, restaurant, bar, conference rooms and fitness space emerged in the very center of the city, at Widok street.
Nobu Hotel, which belongs to the chain of well-known lifestyle hotels and restaurants, will soon open in Warsaw. The hotel concept was created by Robert De Niro, chef Nobu Matsuhisa and producer Meir Teper. The hotel will occupy the newly constructed building and the former Rialto Hotel on Wilcza street.
At the end of the second quarter of 2020, Sadie Best Western boutique hotel with 66 rooms is expected open in Warsaw at the site of the former Harenda hotel. Radisson RED hotel will also appear on the capital hotel map. Moreover, a hotel which is under construction at Mszczonowska street, next to Reduta shopping mall, will operate under Hampton by Hilton brand and will feature about 150 rooms..
New hotel openings in Warsaw will include moxy & Residence Inn hotel, and the first Vīb hotel in Poland and Europe, both announced by Polish Hotel Holding. The Vib property will operate in the former Apartments Zgoda by DeSilva building in the very centre of Warsaw.
The very first Tulip Residences property in Poland will debut in Warsaw Praga district at Targowa street.
There is also the first hotel from Barceló group to open in Warsaw next year, under Occidental brand The 4-star hotel will be located in Powiśle district at the intersection of Zajęcza and Wybrzeże Kościuszkowskie streets, in the immediate vicinity of Elektrownia Powiśle. It will offer 150 rooms, conference space and a rooftop bar.
In addition, German hotel group Meininger will open an economy hotel, addressed to families, business travellers and backpackers. The brand will be the first one in Poland and the second one in Central and Eastern Europe. Meininger Hotel Warsaw will be located in the existing building, will have over 150 rooms and the company plans to complete its renovation by the end of 2022.
Orbis is also planning to introduce new brand of lifestyle hotel. TRIBE Warszawa Bracka Hotel will offer 113 rooms, bar and restaurant, conference facilities as well as fitness zone. It will be located in the heart of Warsaw, at Bracka street in the former office building of Office and is due to open in 2022.
NDI Smolna, associated with NDI development company from Sopot, submitted the application for hotel construction permit. The investor intends to erect a six-storey building in the green area between Smolna and Aleje Jerozolimskie streets in Warsaw.
ibis Styles Krakow Santorini with 63 rooms opened in Cracow last autumn. Another hotel of this brand with 259 rooms is to be commissioned in the last quarter of next year at Mogilska Street. Radisson RED Kraków hotel is also to emerge in the capital of Lesser Poland.
AMW Hotele company, which is part of Polski Holding Hotelowy, announced launching of upscale Le Méridien brand on the Cracow market. The existing Royal hotel will go through a renovation and rebranding, after which it will offer about 100 rooms in a great location.
Another new brand to appear in Cracow in 2022 is TRIBE. TRIBE Krakow Stare Miasto Hotel will be located at Worcella street next to the existing Mercure Krakow Stare Miasto, Galeria Krakowska mall and the train station. It will provide 170 stylish rooms, restaurant, coffee corner and bar, fitness centre and sauna.
Mercure Krakow Fabryczna City will welcome their guests in the first quarter of next year. The 200-room hotel will also include 3500 sq m of modern conference space, 2000 sq m of fitness & spa area with a swimming pool as well as a bar and a restaurant. It will be constructed as a part of Fabryczna City investment in Cracow. The historic buildings within the complex will also house six other restaurants, one of which will have its own on-site brewery.
According to Walter Herz there are over 5 thousand hotel rooms at the travellers’ disposal in Wroclaw. Planned hotels will bring additional 2 thousand rooms in the near future.
At the end of last year, Best Western chain portfolio expanded with the second hotel in the city. The 4-star Best Western Premier Hotel City Center is located at Gwarna street and offers 64 rooms. Holiday Inn Express Wroclaw with 142 rooms will open in Wroclaw before the end of next year.
Later this year, 5-star Altus Palace hotel will welcome its first guests. It is located in the former Leipziger Palace in Wroclaw. After renovation this historic building will include 81 rooms and will be operated by Dobry Hotel.
Vienna House hotel chain also signed a contract for a hotel project in Wroclaw. The new facility under Vienna House Easy brand is to open in 2022.
– The current supply of rooms in Katowice, which has over 2200 rooms now, will increase by additional 1900 rooms once the current pipeline of hotels is completed. – says Andrzej Szymczyk, Associate Director Hospitality Department at Walter Herz.
Diamond Plaza Katowice hotel with 135 rooms will welcome guests after the renovation later on this year. Mercure Katowice City Center with 268 rooms will open at Młyńska street, whereas 4-star Puro hotel is under construction at Korfantego Avenue. Puro will add 247 rooms to Katowice room stock and it will open in the first quarter of 2022.
The new hotel developments in Katowice also include Qubus Hotel with 97 rooms and dual-branded Kyriad and Première Classe, which will offer a total of about 200 rooms. Nova Silesia will stand in the place of the famous Silesia hotel in the very centre of the city. The entire investment will include two 14-storey office buildings, which will bring 30 000 sq m of space and a 7-storey hotel with 150 rooms.
Vienna House group will open its Vienna House R.evo hotel at the intersection of Sokolska and Piotra Skargi streets. The four-star property will have 203 rooms and will combine functions of hotel and long-stay apartments.
The first occidental by Barcelo hotel in Poland will be developed at Zielona street near Chopina park.
At the end of last year Polski Holding Hotelowy opened moxy hotel, located in the immediate vicinity of Poznan Airport with 120 rooms.. The brand is part of Marriott International chain.
Kupiec Poznański, one of the most recognizable buildings in the city, will gain a new hotel function. The AC by Marriott branded property will offer about 150 rooms, restaurant, bar and conference space. It will open in 2022.
New hotels in resorts
New hotels are also appearing in Polish resorts. Radisson has signed franchise agreements for i.e.: Radisson Resort Szklarska Poręba, Radisson Resort Kołobrzeg, Radisson Blu Ostroda Mazury Lakes, Radisson Blu Sopot, which together with Radisson RED Warsaw and Radisson RED Kraków will provide our market with over 1000 rooms in total.
The 14-storey Baltic Wave hotel is also being built in Kołobrzeg, between Kasprowicza, Kołłątaja and Kościuszki streets. The property will include 468 rooms, panoramic infinity-edge pool, indoor swimming pool complex, spa & wellness area, bar and café, restaurants and conference centre. The hotel will operate under Crowne Plaza Resort brand from Intercontinental Hotel Group and will be completed by the end of 2021.
At the beginning of this year, B&B Hotels opened B&B Rzeszów Centrum hotel at Grottgera street shortly after opening the facility in Nowy Targ,. The hotel has 64 rooms and conference facilities. There is a new airport hotel has also been operating in Rzeszów since last autumn. The 3-star Holiday Inn Express Rzeszów Airport offers 120 rooms.
Aries Residence & SPA Szczyrk hotel will be located in Szczyrk at Górska street. It will provide 118 rooms and suites, conference rooms and a restaurant, as well as the first Aqua Aries with swimming pool zone and nearly 400-meter sauna.
A 5-star complex with 79 rooms and 52 apartments, leisure and entertainment section will be built at Zakopiańska street in Świeradów-Zdrój.
The 4-star Hotels&Preference Luxury Szklarska Poręba hotel will offer 270 rooms as of 2021. It will be the first property of this chain in Poland and the largest hotel modular construction in Poland and Central and Eastern Europe.
Platinum Mountain Hotel & SPA hotel opened in Szklarska Poręba at the end of last year. The 5-star hotel offers 147 rooms, dr Irena Eris Beauty Partner salon, conference space and one of the largest indoor pools in the area. There is also an outdoor pool in the shape of a natural pond. Górskie Resorty group is building a 5-star Crystal Mountain Hotel in Wisła,

The number of facilities of the highest standard is also growing in our country. – Eight five-star hotels opened in Poland last year, and their number increased to 76. We will be able to observe more high class openings soon – informs Andrzej Szymczyk.
– However, there will be many more hotels of lower categories. Their services are dedicated to a wider group of clients, than the ones of top-class hotels. In the upcoming years, there should also be more facilities located outside the most obvious locations in the centres of the large cities. This way, the hotel market will gradually develop demand on local micro-markets – adds Andrzej Szymczyk.
